Onsite medical services and wellness programming are ways in which employers can proactively manage the health of their populations. HAC group purchasing efforts are growing in this area to meet member needs.
HRAs/Onsite Screenings
In 2008, after an extensive RFP process and contract negotiations, Health Action Council Ohio announced a partnership with Nationwide Better Health (NBH), as it was able to provide a solid vision and true integration by connecting health promotion and disease management. Meeting the needs of several HAC members, NBH could also assist most HAC employers requiring countrywide capabilities for concentrated and dispersed groups of employees. NBH (created following Nationwide’s acquisition of WellCorp) already services the employees of five HAC members.
HAC partnered with Nationwide Better Health to help its member companies optimize the health and productivity of their workplace, resulting in savings on direct and indirect health care costs. In addition to preferred pricing on biometric screenings and health risk appraisals, the contract includes a range of wellness programming, such as lifestyle coaching, and services, like incentive tracking.
Workshops held in Cleveland and Columbus were attended by more than one hundred employer representatives to focus on important aspects of wellness programs -- HRAs, biometric screening and incentives -- and showcased a HAC member, an employer case study, and a roundtable discussion among HAC employer and prospective members. Data collected about HAC member practices are available to contributing employer members as part of the HAC member “Share and Compare” planning survey. Health Action Council Ohio will work with the newly formed Wellness User Group, which has been established to:
-
monitor implementation of the new agreement
-
facilitate best practice sharing
-
introduce experts on topics of common interest and
-
develop worksite programming for easy adoption by other HAC members.
